A Special Opportunity to Tour National Historic Landmark Crow Island School on Saturday, September 24

Join Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond, the Winnetka Historical Society and the Crow Island Stewardship Group for a symposium and docent-led tour of Crow Island School, 1112 Willow Road, on Saturday, September 24, at1:00 p.m. This National Historic Landmark, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2015, was designed by legendary architects Eliel and Eero Saarinen with the Chicago architectural firm of Perkins, Wheeler and Will. The symposium will feature Susan Saarinen, daughter of Eero and Lily Swann Saarinen, who will share her memories and insights about the lives of her talented and artistic family when they were living at Cranbrook where her grandfather Eliel Saarinen served as President of the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Laurie Petersen (co-editor of the revised AIA Guide to Chicago) will highlight the architectural significance of Crow Island School. Susan Benjamin, an architectural historian, is completing a Historic Structures Report for the building. A Q & A session will also be held.
