Play, innovation, creativity are the cornerstones of the District’s Kindergarten program. We strive to help children understand themselves as individual learners, leaders, and as members of a group. By fostering play through a carefully constructed environment and experiences, we provide opportunities for children to collaborate, communicate, become part of the classroom community, and learn to take risks and develop problem-solving skills.
Academic learning is embedded in all activities; literacy and math are integrated into curricular units, games, and daily rituals. Art and music provide children with additional modes of learning and opportunities for expression. Kindergarten students explore scientific concepts such as light, water, color, animals, and plants through integrated and emergent studies and hands-on experimentation in play. Outdoor activities are designed to help children build gross motor skills through games and by using large and small equipment.
