Maxie Clarke*, Secretary
Maxie Clarke has lived in Winnetka since 2011. She is married and has three children who attend District 36 schools. Maxie grew up in Indianapolis attending both public and private schools. She graduated with a BS in Elementary Education from Indiana University in 1999 and a Master’s of Science Degree in Special Education from Hunter College in New York City. She taught self-contained special education classes at two private schools in NYC from 1999-2007. In that time, Maxie also developed a K-5 curriculum based on New York state standards for a private self-contained special education K-5 program named Aaron School. Maxie worked as a learning specialist delivering differentiated instruction to learning disabled students and supported teachers in their teaching. After moving to Chicago for her husband's job, Maxie continued to work for Aaron School in Manhattan to enhance the curriculum as well as facilitate their Central States Accreditation process for the next three years. Since moving to Winnetka, Maxie has served in various volunteer roles in the District 36 schools, including Crow Island PTO President as well as numerous committees including the District’s Kindergarten committee, Staff Appreciation, Girls on the Run, and the Crow Island’s 75th committee. Additionally, Maxie has also been an active member of the Kohl Children's Museum Women's Board, on the Guild of the Botanic Gardens, and chaired several events for Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Maxie continues to be involved in the Winnetka Garden Club as well as continue to be an active volunteer in her kids' schools.
