Hello and welcome to the Department of Student Services, Equity and Inclusion!

The Department of Student Services, Equity and Inclusion is committed to ensuring that every student has equitable access to meaningful learning experiences, individualized support, and a strong sense of belonging within District 36. Through a whole child approach, we partner with students, families, staff, and community agencies to remove barriers, build inclusive learning environments, and help every learner thrive. Our work is grounded in the District's commitments to:

We believe every student deserves to be known, valued, challenged, and supported. Whether providing specialized services, coaching educators, coordinating interventions, or partnering with families, our department works collaboratively to ensure students receive the supports they need to achieve academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success.

The Department of Student Services, Equity and Inclusion provides leadership and services in the following areas:

• Special Education (Early Childhood through Grade 8)
• Section 504 Services
• Child Find (including Student Evaluations and Eligibility)
• Inclusive Practices and Specialized Instruction
• Related Services (Speech-Language, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, School Psychology, Social Work, Assistive Technology)
• Extended School Year (ESY)
• McKinney-Vento (Students Experiencing Homelessness)
• Early Entrance to Kindergarten
• Proportionate Share Private and Parochial School Services
• Student Records Support
• Transportation for Specialized Services

In partnership with our schools, the department also supports:

TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804 (formerly NSSED)

The Winnetka Public Schools District 36 is a member of the TrueNorth (formerly NSSED) special education cooperative. TrueNorth provides specialized programming and services to our students who require more support than that typically offered in a public school. This includes, but is not limited to, early childhood programs, educational and life skills (ELS) programs, therapeutic day school programs, services for students who have autism spectrum disorders. Assistive technology assessments and services are also available. TrueNorth also provides professional development opportunities and consultation services to school faculty and staff.

Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO)

The Winnetka Public Schools District 36 is a member of the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO). NSSEO provides diagnostic and itinerant services for students who have hearing impairments and also provides specialized programs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
