What Does Research Say About Best Practices in Mathematics Education? (And why does math today look so different from when I was in school?)
This presentation addresses the following questions:- How and when do students learn their "math facts"?
- Why do we invest time in finding multiple ways to solve problems?
- Why are thinking and reasoning essential in today's math class?
The presentation includes information from Winnetka math experts, videos of our students in action, and the voices of respected math professionals from around the country. Research conducted by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Stanford University, the National Research Council, and other sources are referenced throughout the presentation.

Math Transitions: From Skokie to Washburne
What does the math progression look like for students as they move from Skokie to Washburne and then on to high school?
This presentation will help you learn more about Winnetka Public School’s math program structure as students progress from Skokie, to Washburne, and on to New Trier. Topics that are addressed include the math course offerings at Washburne, the placement process for seventh grade, and the progression from Washburne to high school.

How is a mathematical concept developed across grade levels? This is the second in a series of WPIs focused on math education. During the session, Winnetka teachers will talk about the progression of learning students go through in their K-8 journey as it relates to algebraic thinking/multiplication. Participants had a chance to engage in math activities that children are experiencing in classrooms and learn how instruction builds as students move through the schools.
