Fifth grade: Fifth grade students are placed on a
two-teacher team, switching teachers for one hour per day.
Fifth grade students attend two exploratory classes that may
include art, Spanish, service, music, drama, dance, and
keyboarding. Students also participate in a daily kinetic
wellness class. Sixth Grade: Sixth graders are in a core (2 teachers)
for English, social studies, math, and science classes.
Sixth grade students have two periods daily of exploratory
classes which may include band or orchestra, art, life
skills, create a museum, vocal music, service projects,
foreign language, and/or creative dramatics. In addition,
sixth graders participate in physical education classes on a
daily basis. Seventh Grade: Seventh graders are in a team (4
teachers) for English, social studies, math, and science
classes. Students participate in physical education classes
every day. Each student takes two periods of elective
classes which change every trimester. These may include
musical theater, drama, computers, a foreign language (a
two-year commitment), creative writing, and industrial arts.
Band and orchestra are offered outside the school day,
usually before school. Eighth Grade: Eighth graders are in a team (4 teachers)
for English, social studies, math, and science classes.
Students participate in physical education classes every
day. Each student takes two periods of elective classes
which change every trimester. These may include musical
theater, drama, computers, yearbook, stagecraft, modern
communication, and industrial arts. Band and orchestra are
offered outside the school day, usually before
school. Individual student needs at grades five,
six, seven, and eight are served through the following
programs: Extended Learning Program, learning disabilities
program, reading improvement, social work, and
speech/language services.Parents attend an evening curriculum
meeting in September, "Go-to-School Night," to learn more
about their children's school day.The Washburne-Skokie Campus schools do
