Common Core Mathematics - Parent Workshop - February 24
February 21, 2012
Common Core State Standards-Mathematics (CCSM-M) have been adopted by Illinois and 47 other states. These new standards emphasize critical-thinking... and problem-solving and will replace state-specific learning standards. One of the goals of the District's current math curriculum review is to align District curriculum with these revised standards. We anticipate that a new assessment tool (which will replace the ISAT) will be implemented in 2014.

On February 24, The Winnetka Parent's Institute is hosting a Common Core Workshop so that parents can learn about the research behind the standards and how they will be implemented in District classrooms. Dr. Sam Yusim, Carleton Washburne School Math Department Chair, will be presenting. He will explain the reasons for this reform, what mathematical proficiency means in the 21st century, and share the work that is being done by our teachers to insure a smooth transition for our students. We hope you can attend.

    Friday, February 24, 2012
    1:00 - 2:00 P.M.
    Carleton Washburne School
    Curriculum Classroom, third floor

This presentation will of interest to parents of students of all ages. If you have questions, please contact the Curriculum Office 847-501-4190.
