The role of the Resource Center is to act as an extension of the classroom, enhancing the learning of students in curricular areas as well as individual areas of interest. The Resource Center is a provider of materials, activities and human resources. By the completion of 4th grade, student activities will culminate with the following experiences;

 

LIBRARY

 

- Appreciation of the library as a storehouse of knowledge

- Appreciation of literature: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, biography

- Appropriate use of a library, materials and equipment

- Arrangement of materials in order: alphabetical, numerical, Dewey decimal

- Procedures for borrowing materials from a library

- Study the parts of a book

- Use of the electronic catalog

- Use of print and electronic reference materials: dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases,

almanacs, indexes, biographical works.

 

COMPUTER

 
- Use of curriculum related programs to build skills

- Retrieval of information from data bases

- Use of simulations

- Use of the computer as a creative tool

- Appreciation of the computer as a tool for learning

- Ability to use a computer independently

- Practice of keyboarding skills

- Use of word-processing

- Use of Logo

 

Math Lab

- Provision of remedial, extension, and enrichment services for students

- Provision of school- wide math activities
