Birthday Book Program--Greeley School
Many schools have wonderful Birthday Books programs. Instead of
the entire focus of your child's birthday being on sugar-filled
cupcakes, goodie bags and presents from near and far, the Birthday
Books program gives you and your child the chance to make a lasting
gift to Greeley in your child's name.
The Birthday Books idea was suggested by a Greeley family, the Fears. Joyce
McCaffrey, director of the Resource Center, loved the idea and helped work out
the details. This year some changes have been made to the program to make the
giving a bit easier. In the Resource Center, there is a special cart with books
selected by Joyce McCaffrey for the specific purpose of providing
quality selections for the program. As a parent, you simply have to bring your
child to the library and select a book from the bookcase that you would like
to donate in your child's name to the library. All books will be assessed at
the same cost and you can simply pay the Resource Center for the book.
Once a book is purchased, a permanent bookplate will be placed in the book
with the child's name and birthdate. The child will then receive a thank you
bookmark and a thank you in the Greeley Crier as well as many thanks from the
Resource Center staff.
Summer birthday? Have no fear. You are welcome to donate a Birthday Book at
any point in time or to pass until next year.
We're excited about Birthday Books and hope you will be, too. We think it's
a great way for your child to give back to Greeley something that Greeley so
readily gives to him-- a love of books. What's more, our library can always
use an influx of new and wonderful books
and this even gives us a chance
to order duplicates of some ever-popular or dog-eared favorites. So start thinking
about your child's birthday and take a look at the cart of books Joyce and her
staff have for the library. The books will be replenished regularly so expect
changes as the year progresses.
