Introduction to Piano and Composition

Have you always wanted to play the piano? If so, this is the class for you! Discover the basics of piano skills using method books that are appropriate for your level. Learn the fundamentals of music theory and play some of your favorite music in our MIDI Lab. This is for students with little or no piano background!

GarageBand/iMovie (Grade 8)

Using the iLife software suite, you will create slideshows, trailers, and films while using Garage Band to compose your own original music. You will integrate technology, digital photography, and composition to produce a DVD to share with your family and friends!

Music Exploration (Grade 7)

Do you like to listen to, create, and perform music? If so, this is the class for you! Learn how to play the tone chimes and explore the art of composing through Garage Band. Improve your note reading, musical vocabulary, and travel through time to study music from A.D. 500 - present. If you want to be a well-rounded musician or simply learn a new instrument, don’t miss this opportunity!

Vocal Variety

This group voice lesson will focus more on individual singing through literature of all different styles. Work on breathing, posture, projection, and stage presence while exploring classical, pop, jazz, and musical theatre genres. The class will culminate in a voice recital at the end of the trimester. This class is only open to students who are enrolled in Washburne Chorus.

Musical Theatre

(Trimesters 2 & 3 - students in this class must make a two-trimester commitment) In this performance class, students learn the necessary skills needed to create a well-rounded musical theatre production, weaving music, drama and movement together. It offers dramatic acting opportunities for those who are interested, as well as a chance for both solo and ensemble musical work. Some extracurricular commitments may be involved as the trimesters culminate with an opportunity for students to showcase their work for parents and peers.
