Kindergarten

Social emotional learning is at the center of our work in kindergarten. We strive to help children understand themselves as individual learners and as members of a group. Play drives the curriculum and provides children ongoing experiences to collaborate. Fostering play through a carefully constructed environment, we provide opportunities for children to become a community of learners and encourage communication, risk taking, and problem solving skills. Outdoors, children build gross motor skills through games and by using large and small equipment. Academic learning is embedded in developmentally appropriate ways through play and small and large group instruction. Literacy and math are integrated into topics of study, games, and daily rituals. Art and music provide children additional modes of learning and languages for communication. Children have opportunities to explore scientific concepts such as light, water, color, animals, and plants through integrated and emergent studies and hands-on experimentation in play.
